I AM EVERY WOMEN
Attitudes towards women have changed and evolved. In fact, they are still evolving. Whether we use reality or fiction as our point of inspiration, there are undeniable commonalities in art featuring women: the themes of diversity, tolerance and sex.
Inspired by WHITNEY HOUSTON’s song “I Am Every Woman”, and referencing JUDY CHICAGO’s “The Dinner Party”, photographer LEWIS CHAN explores the different dimensions of women through inspection of famous muses over time.

Mother Nature watches the world she’s created. She’s a lifeforce to be reckoned with, being both the creator and the destroyer. She truly is every woman.
Mulan and her story are transcendent. She represents dedication, determination and duty. We may not be in a position to take our father’s place in the military, but we are all hold something dear enough to fight for.
“Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under it” is what Lady Macbeth told Macbeth when she attempted to convince him to take part in regicide. She draws you in with her pure and delicate façade, but only on closer inspection can you see her intelligence and guile.
History classrooms and mainstream media wants us to remember Cleopatra for her sexual liaisons and her relationships with Marc Anthony and Julius Caesar. She’s depicted as a temptress, but her complexity far surpasses her representation of lust and passion.
